Coating Characteristics

Chemical Pre-treatment

Coils and sheets are degreased and chromium-free chemically converted on both sides before coating.

Top Side

Product top side is prepainted with a polyester paint. On customer request other paint systems are available: polyamide, polyurethane, PVdF (polyvinylidenfluoride)
A wide range of colours is available, on specific requests new colours can be designed.

Reverse Side

Reverse side is protected by a backing coat polyester (semi transparent) suitable for adhesive bonding with most glues and foams.

brilliance level:

  • 30 [gloss units] (coupled with top sides < 40 units)
  • 80 [gloss units] (coupled with top sides ≥ 40 units)

Colour Tolerances

Measures on colour (DE values, CIELAB system (acc. to ECCA T3 and ISO 7724:1984)) refers to Novelis master colour. This method can’t be used for transparent and metallic colours, special effects and for embossed surfaces.

Protective film

The protective film (transparent or Black & White) is applied to the coated aluminium coils and sheets used in the production of façades.
The protective film must be removed at the latest 6 (six) months after delivery and is for external application (UV resistant).

  • chemical composition: polyethylene
  • typical thickness: 50 / 80 [µm]
  • adhesive: acrylic / rubber glue
