Architecture Award: Colour: a material for architecture

Novelis Painted Products, part of the world's largest aluminium rolling and can recycling company, has presented, in cooperation with the magazine "FRAMES - Architettura dei serramenti", the international architecture award "Colour: a material for architecture", open to professional designers and students.
It is anticipated that a wide variety of finishes and colours will be seen in innovative projects offering great potential for exciting new product development.
Entries for the competition will be accepted until 12.00 a.m. on 1st December, 2006. Full details on the award, which offers total prize fund of 15.000 Euros can be found on www.faenza.com.
Following the great success obtained in 2005 with the "INNOVATIVE ARCHITECTURE: Design and sustainability" award, which encouraged the use of new technologies in architectural designs, specifically relating to the choice of facade components (202 submissions from 10 countries), Novelis will be sponsor of the competition in 2006 as well.
In 2005 the winners of the NOVELIS AWARD for the professional designers category were Anabela Da Silva Leitão and Daiji Kondo of the A-LDK studio from Lisbon - Portugal - with their project, entitled Beloura House, built with Novelis ff2® pre-painted solid aluminium sheet in 2 mm thickness with an UV-resistant PVDF surface finishing. The Jury selected the Beloura House as the winner of the award for the innovative use of aluminium in the revetment of façades because: For the use of pre-painted aluminium laminate in a residential application, above all for the large-scale aluminium cassetts, rear-ventilated facade and the convincing colour solution adopted.
